BOSTON — July 20, 2026 — Boston and MassDOT jointly applied for a federal mega grant to fund the roughly $2 billion Allston I-90 corridor overhaul at Beacon Yards. Mayor Michelle Wu announced at a July 20 site tour and press conference that the application was submitted June 23 under a new federal program, with an award announcement expected in fall 2026. Chief of Streets Yasha Franklin-Hodge said the city may contribute to local street elements of the project but that specific financing mechanisms have not been identified; he called it "largely a highway and a rail project" and said the state and federal government are expected to bear the lion's share of costs.
