Boston City Council Budget Hearing Adjourns With No Public Testimony

BOSTON — May 2, 2023 — A Boston City Council public hearing on the city's $4 billion-plus FY24 budget adjourned Tuesday after no residents signed up to testify. Councilor Brian Worrell, chairing the council's budget review process, waited through a 15-minute grace period before gaveling the session closed. Councilor At-Large Ruthzee Louijeune, the only other member present, noted that "the budget is a reflection of our values as a city" and stressed the importance of public participation. The hearing covered dockets 0760 through 0768, spanning the operating budget, school department appropriations, other post-employment benefits, and the capital budget. Dedicated public testimony sessions remain scheduled for May 9 at 6 p.m. and May 18 at 2 p.m.
