Boston Council Committee Advances $30 Million Affordable Housing Fund Authorization

BOSTON — June 25, 2026 — Boston City Council committee hears testimony on $30 million affordable housing fund authorization. The City Council's committee hearing on Docket 0968, held June 25, convened with Committee Chair Councilor Durkin and Councilor Ed Flynn as the only members present to consider an order authorizing the Mayor's Office of Housing to accept and expend up to $30 million in Inclusionary Development Policy fund revenue projected over the next two fiscal years. Rick Wilson, the office's director of administration and finance, told the committee that since 2014 the city has collected more than $217 million in IDP revenue and has invested more than $188 million in affordable housing, supporting nearly 3,800 new or preserved units. Wilson named more than a dozen projects slated to receive funding, including sites in Roxbury, Mattapan, East Boston, Dorchester, and Chinatown, and warned that a two-year slowdown in large residential construction threatens the fund's average $15 million annual revenue. Durkin said she intends to bring the order to a full City Council vote at the next meeting.
