Boston Council Committee Reviews 10 Federal Workforce Grants at Virtual Hearing

BOSTON — March 11, 2025 — Boston City Council committee reviews 10 federal workforce grants totaling several million dollars. The Committee on Labor, Workforce, and Economic Development, chaired by Councilor Benjamin J. Weber, held a virtual hearing March 11 on dockets 0397 through 0455, covering grants from the U.S. Department of Labor that range from $30,000 in regional planning funds up to $2.2 million in WIOA youth program funding. Six grants target dislocated workers and unemployment insurance claimants; three support youth and adult services under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act; and a tenth funds high-demand industry pipeline planning. Katie Gall, Director of Grants for the Office of Worker Empowerment, noted that the city's second Mass Hire Career Center — operated by ABCD in Roxbury's Nubian Square — is now open and planning a grand opening event. No votes were taken; dockets remain pending full council action.
