Boston Council Weighs $100 Event-Day Parking Fine Near TD Garden

BOSTON — September 26, 2025 — Boston City Council hears push to raise event-day parking fines near TD Garden to $100. Councilor Gabriela Coletta Zapata chaired Friday's hearing on Docket 1206, which proposes lifting the resident-permit-zone fine from $60 to $100 during TD Garden arena events in the North End — mirroring a 2015 Fenway Park ordinance — with a $33 late penalty after 21 days. Nick Gove, Deputy Chief for Transportation and acting BTD Commissioner, backed the measure with two recommended changes: adding the West End RPP zone due to its proximity to the Garden, and narrowing the definition of covered events to the TD Garden arena itself, excluding smaller on-site venues under 5,000-seat capacity. Gove reported that BTD received more than 60,000 parking-related 311 requests in 2024 — the city's top case type — and issued 4,364 RPP violations in the North End that year alone. North End resident Darlene Romano of 90 Salem Street told the council the current $60 fine amounts to a discount parking option: "You have four guys going to the Bruins game — what is it, $15 a piece?" No vote was taken; Coletta Zapata said she expects to move to a vote before the end of 2025.
