Boston PFC Approves $3 Million BPS School Portfolio Study Contract

BOSTON — July 20, 2026 — Boston Public Facilities Commission awards nearly $3 million contract to guide future school renovations citywide. The commission voted unanimously Monday to award DLR Group Inc. a $2,999,910, 16-month design study services contract covering the full Boston Public Schools prekindergarten-through-grade-12 building portfolio, a contract that will produce a master plan with 12 individual school case studies and both a 5-to-7-year and a 20-to-25-year capital expenditures plan tied to the city's broader capital planning process. Project Manager Pedro Hernandez noted the $300,000 set aside for additional services is included within the contract ceiling — prompting Commissioner Catherine Pendleton to quip, "Got to keep it under $3 million." Three of DLR Group's sub-consultants, including community engagement firm St. Fleur Communications, are women-owned business enterprises. In a separate unanimous vote, the commission approved a $455,495 amendment to the Design Lab Architects contract for the Curly Community Center renovation at 1663 Columbia Road in South Boston, covering unforeseen deteriorated structural steel and hazardous materials abatement discovered during construction.
