Boston PFC Approves All Seven DND Property Transfers in First Virtual Hearing

Boston Public Facilities Commission unanimously approved all seven Department of Neighborhood Development property votes at its May 13 meeting, transferring long-vacant city-owned parcels in Dorchester, Roxbury, South Boston, and the South End to community organizations and developers for $100 each. Commissioners Larry Momoli and Dionne Irish approved tentative developer designations for a 12-unit affordable condominium project by Urbanica Incorporated at 405 Washington Street in Dorchester, expected to generate an estimated $36,000 in first-year tax revenue, a healing forest by Codman Academy Foundation at 45 Norfolk Street, a playground preservation by the Sonoma Maple Schuller Tenants Association at 84 Maple Street in Roxbury, and a community land trust for the Urban Farming Institute at an Akron Street parcel in Roxbury. The commission also approved final conveyances to the Boston Food Forest Coalition for a 21,000-square-foot Savin Hill Avenue parcel and to the Bernard Place Park Corporation for 603R East 2nd Street in South Boston, which has already secured a preliminary $150,000 Community Preservation Act award for a park featuring pollinator plantings and a bocce court.

A seventh vote transferred a 5,000-square-foot Windsor Street parcel in the South End from the Public Works Department to DND for a future disposition process.
