Boston School Committee re-elects Loconto and Oliver-Davila to lead the panel for 2020. At the committee's January 6 organizational meeting, Chair Michael Loconto was re-elected to a third consecutive term and Vice Chair Alexandra Oliver-Davila was returned to her post, both on unanimous 7-0 roll-call votes called by Clerk Liz Sullivan. The committee also approved its 2020 meeting calendar by unanimous consent.
Loconto credited the prior year's work — including the hiring of Superintendent Dr. Brenda Casselius, several school closures, and a K-5 to K-6 elementary expansion — as a foundation for the year ahead. Committee member Michael O'Neill noted that a student, identified as Rodriguez Elvis, served as a voting member of the superintendent search committee for the first time in district history, calling it "an excellent addition." Casselius congratulated the newly re-elected officers, describing them as "two really incredible mentors" during her first months leading Boston Public Schools.
