BPDA Board Approves Dana-Farber, Beth Israel Cancer Hospital Master Plans

BOSTON — October 10, 2024 — The BPDA board approved institutional master plans for a proposed 300-bed cancer hospital to be jointly developed by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at One Jocelyn Place in the Longwood Medical Area. The plans, which carry a combined mitigation and community benefits package of just over $20 million including separated bike lanes and pedestrian improvements along Brookline Avenue, were approved unanimously by the four-member board chaired by Director Theodore Landsmark at the October 10 meeting. The proposed 14-story, approximately 450,000-square-foot building would be the first dedicated inpatient cancer hospital in New England, though the project must still complete a full Article 80 large-project review before construction can begin. The board also approved the Franciscan Children's Hospital 2022-to-2032 institutional master plan for a new 235,000-square-foot clinical building in Brighton, Phase 1 of the 441-unit Faneuil Gardens affordable housing redevelopment in Brighton, and a 45-unit affordable homeownership building at 980 Harrison Avenue in Roxbury — part of a five-parcel redevelopment of Boston Water and Sewer Commission parking lots. Cairo Shen was appointed director of the EDIC at the meeting, with acting Director Devin Quirk noting the evening's approvals covered 320 residential units, more than 170 income-restricted units, and work projected to put 683 tradespeople to work.
