BOSTON -- Liberty Mutual pledges $5 million for Boston youth homelessness as Mayor Walsh awards $4.7 million in city grants. The dual announcement, made at a grant celebration hosted at the More Than Words social enterprise in Boston, will fund 157 new housing opportunities for homeless youth and young adults across 19 community partner organizations. Liberty Mutual Foundation President Melissa McDonnell and Chairman and CEO David H.

Long joined Mayor Martin Walsh at the event, where Walsh credited the city's first formal youth homelessness action plan, Rising to the Challenge, as the basis for the grant awards. National advocate Megan Gibbons-Klein, Director of Away Home America, challenged grantees to shift from program-level thinking to system-building, warning that "we have not yet ended youth homelessness" despite two decades of effort. The event featured first-person testimonials from five young people, including Noberto, who described being turned away from three shelters in a single night, and Amina Johnson of More Than Words, who co-hosted as a person who had experienced housing instability herself.
