Boston Announces $40 Million for 718 Affordable Housing Units Across Five Neighborhoods

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston commits $40 million to create and preserve 718 affordable housing units across 14 projects citywide. Mayor Michelle Wu made the announcement Tuesday at the DeWitt Center in Roxbury's Nubian Square, drawing on three funding streams: the Mayor's Office of Housing budget, the Neighborhood Housing Trust, and the Community Preservation Fund. The 14 projects span Jamaica Plain, Dorchester, Chinatown, Hyde Park, and Roxbury, with the largest single award — $6 million — going to Urbanica for Nuba Homes on BPDA-owned Parcel 8 in Nubian Square, which will create 49 income-restricted homeownership units with artists' housing. Community Preservation Committee Chair Felicia Jacques said the CPA program received more than 88 applications this cycle and that nine of the 14 projects will receive a combined $14.6 million in CPA funding, representing more than 50 percent of this year's CPA housing allocation; the committee's final vote is set for February 7. City Councilor-at-Large Erin Murphy noted that a 42 percent increase in the city's linkage program has driven $80 million in affordable housing spending since 2014, while Councilor Kenzie Bach called for new revenue sources including a potential real estate transfer tax and higher linkage fees.
