Boston awards $1.84 million design contract for South End Engine 3 fire station

BOSTON — October 23, 2024 — Boston's Public Facilities Commission cleared a $1,840,470 design contract for the Engine 3 fire station and approved three city land sales at its October 23 meeting. Senior Project Manager Scott Dupree presented the contract award to Galante Architecture Studio, Inc. for design services through construction documents at 618 Harrison Avenue in the South End, with an estimated construction cost of $18.7 million and a 60-week design timeline. The commission also voted unanimously to convey a vacant Roxbury parcel to the Boston Redevelopment Authority for $1 to enable NUBA LLC — a partnership of Urbanica and the NHP Foundation — to build 109 affordable and income-restricted units plus roughly 2,100 square feet of retail space. Two additional vacant parcels were sold: an unnumbered Dorchester lot to the 1994 Roebury Street Condominium Trust for $45,000 for parking and open space, and a landlocked Roslindale parcel to Kenneth Terry and Lisa S. Terry for $26,000, a price set low due to the site's complete lack of street frontage.
