Boston City Council Approves $7.7 Million in Grants at Louijeune's Final Meeting as President

BOSTON — December 10, 2025 — Boston City Council approves more than $7.7 million in grants at Council President Ruthzee Louijeune's final presiding meeting. The council passed seven grant items unanimously on December 10, including a $3,966,900 Safe and Successful Youth Initiative grant administered by the Boston Police Department, a $4,125,000 enhanced 911 support grant, a $528,156.32 state 911 training grant, and a $1 million Northeastern University contribution to a Roxbury housing stabilization fund tied to the university's planned 23-story residence hall at 840 Columbus Avenue. Councilor Liz Breadon, chair of the Housing and Community Development Committee, sought emergency suspension and passage of the Northeastern grant, citing cooperative-agreement deadlines. Councilor Benjamin J. Weber pushed through a $95,000 Workforce Training Fund grant supporting two MassHire Boston career centers. Louijeune, in closing remarks, honored the Immigrant Family Services Institute and cited the looming February cutoff of Temporary Protected Status for Haitian residents: "Our immigrants rely on us — they depend on us for them to have a voice."
