Boston City Council Considers $38.2 Million CPA Allocation for 57 Neighborhood Projects

BOSTON -- April 11, 2024, Boston's City Council CPA committee hears $38.2 million slate of 57 recommended projects, with a full council vote still to come. Committee Chair Enrique J. Pepén convened the April 11 hearing on Docket 0503, an appropriation order of $380,277,047 from the FY24 Community Preservation Fund, with the $38.2 million spending pool drawn from $37.2 million in annual revenues plus reallocated prior-round balances. CPA Office Director Thadine Brown told councilors the round drew more than 100 applications totaling $62 million in requests, nearly twice available funds, with 37 of the 57 selected projects recommended for full funding. The allocation breaks down as 49 percent to affordable housing, 25 percent to historic preservation, and 26 percent to open space and recreation. Treasurer Maureen Garso noted the program has now awarded more than $150 million across 290 projects since its 2018 launch. The FY25 eligibility window is open, with an August 30 deadline.
