Boston Commission Clears Path for $65 Million North End Community Center

BOSTON -- September 25, 2024, Boston's Public Facilities Commission unanimously approved three votes at its September 25 meeting, headlined by authorization of a $65 million construction management at-risk procurement for a new North End Community Center. Marquise Mecca, Assistant Director for Construction at the Public Facilities Department, told the commission the 54,500-square-foot building at 471 Commercial Street will replace an existing bathhouse and requires an Office of the Inspector General notice to proceed under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 149A before procurement can begin; Mecca said the project will take about 16 months to design and up to two and a half years to build. The commission also extended to 24 months the tentative developer designation for New Urban Collaborative LLC and Lower Roxbury Community Corporation for a mixed-use, 28-unit affordable homeownership project at 40-50 Warren Street in Roxbury. A third vote approved the $34,000 sale of a Mattapan parcel on Croydon Street, held in city inventory for 90 years, to Robert Moore and Shirley J. Moore.
