Boston Council Advances Municipal Security Officers' Pay Deal Worth 13 Percent Over Four Years

BOSTON — November 27, 2024 — Boston City Council committee advances municipal security officers' contract with 13 percent total raise. Budget Director Jim Williamson and Bridget Connolly of the Office of Labor Relations told councilors at the November 27 hearing that two appropriation orders totaling $170,000 would move funds from the city's central collective bargaining reserve into the property management department, reducing the FY25 reserve balance from $96.8 million to $90.4 million. The contract covers 56 officers in 67 positions and provides a 2 percent annual base wage increase for 2023 through 2026, plus annual lump-sum payments of $500, $250, $900, and $800 in successive years — amounting to 13 percent cumulative compensation growth over the life of the deal. The contract also raises the detail rate from $37 to $40 an hour and the weekend differential from $125 to $150 an hour. Councilor Erin J. Murphy noted officers had contacted her directly hoping to see retroactive pay "in their last paycheck before the holiday season," and a full council vote on dockets 1760 and 1761 was expected the following week.
