Boston Council Hears Plan to Spend $2.6 Million in Casino Mitigation Funds

BOSTON -- November 24, 2025, Boston's Ways and Means Committee heard testimony on a $2,607,000 Massachusetts Gaming Commission community mitigation grant for the city. Committee Chair Brian Worrell of District 4 presided over the November 24 hearing on Docket 1927, which was referred by Mayor Michelle Wu on October 29. Gigi Mondin of the Planning Department said roughly $1 million would fund a Harbor Walk extension near Terminal and Chelsea streets in Charlestown, part of a $5 million project set for completion in 2027. Program coordinator David said $622,000 would support four Boston Police Department units, the Human Trafficking Unit, Crimes Against Children, the Boston Regional Intelligence Center, and the Bureau of Health Services, for fiscal year 2026. Omar Khoshafa, Budget Director for Public Works and Transportation, said his department's share would fund intersection improvements at Chelsea and Terminal streets and four new BlueBike stations in Charlestown. No vote was taken; the matter remains in committee.
