Boston Election Board Certifies 20 Early Voting Sites for November Presidential Election

Boston Election Commission certifies 20 weekend early voting sites and 17 drop boxes for the November 3 presidential election. The three-member board, chaired by Ineda Tavares, voted unanimously July 22 to approve a plan presented by Election Department staffer Michael Scianetti that opens City Hall for daily early voting Monday through Friday — with extended hours to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays — plus 10 neighborhood sites each on October 17-18 and October 24-25, all running 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sites span all Boston neighborhoods and include Fenway Park, where voters will enter via the Jersey Street concourse.

Scianetti said selection criteria included venue size, handicap accessibility, separate entrances and exits, and available parking. The 17 drop boxes are placed primarily at Boston Public Library branches; the lone exception is the Thomas Menino Community Center in Roslindale, where the branch library is under construction. Drop boxes will be locked at 8 p.m. on election night.
