Boston panel approves MBTA elevator repairs, senior housing streets
Public Improvement Commission · Meeting of August 6, 2026
Boston's Public Improvement Commission clears MBTA elevator project and advances 192-unit senior housing streets in a packed Aug. 6 hearing. Commissioners unanimously approved street repairs for the MBTA's three-elevator accessibility project at Downtown Crossing and Park Street, after municipal liaison Dino DeFranco Sr. agreed to add paneling to two "ladder-like" ventilation shafts. Resident Rebecca Lee questioned whether Park Street signage would be advertising; staff said the structures will instead go to the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture for future public art.
Commissioners also approved six petitions from MEM Building C LLC and the Boston Housing Authority reshaping Logan Way and creating a new Strand Way for a 192-unit Mary Ellen McCormack phase, 176 deeply affordable and 172 senior units, per Wind Development's Chance Brady. Nine other projects, including renaming Dearborn Street to New Edition Way, previewed without votes ahead of an Aug. 20 hearing.
