Boston Public Facilities Commission Clears Eight Votes on Schools, Housing, and Library

BOSTON — July 19, 2023 — Boston's Public Facilities Commission approved ten unanimous votes across school, library, and housing matters at its July 19 session. The commission, chaired by Catherine Craven and joined by Commissioners Larry Momoli and Donald Wright, approved a $315,260 contract amendment with Perkins and Will Architects Incorporated for the William E. Carter School in the South End, covering unforeseen geoenvironmental work including three underground storage tanks and asbestos-wrapped equipment discovered during site preparation. A $679,129 contract was awarded to Utile Incorporated to begin a 12-week feasibility study for the flood-damaged South End Branch Library at 685 Tremont Street. On the housing side, the Mayor's Office of Housing secured extensions for Madison Park Development Corporation in Roxbury, which is pursuing 15 affordable homeownership units, and for Cruise Development Corporation on a separate Roxbury lease project; a Mattapan parcel on Gladeside Avenue sold to Edwina J. Wynn for $94,500 after 49 years in city inventory; and ODJ Dev LLC received tentative designation to develop 40 income-restricted condominiums, a community garden, and childcare space on 11 Jamaica Plain parcels at $100 per parcel.
