Boston secured $3.7 million in MassWorks infrastructure grants Tuesday for two Roxbury development projects, Bartlett Station and the non-factory site in Dudley Square. Mayor Martin Walsh and Governor Charlie Baker announced the awards at the Bruce Bolling Municipal Building, with Walsh noting that the full Bartlett Station buildout will eventually produce 360 affordable homes and significant commercial space on the site of a former MBTA yard that sat vacant for more than a decade. Governor Baker said the state views MassWorks as "the final stitch" in complex project financing, covering infrastructure costs — sidewalks, underground utilities, streetscape — that other funding streams do not easily support; Bartlett's first phase had received roughly $2.8 million from the same program.

Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Mike Keneally reported that MassWorks has distributed approximately $450 million to 220 projects across 140 Massachusetts communities over five years, with this year's round making 36 awards from 92 applications. State Representative Chyna Tyler of the 7th Suffolk District also spoke, calling the city-state-community collaboration "very, very proud" territory given how often developer-community relations turn adversarial.
