JPNDC Completes 201-Unit Affordable Housing Rehab in Roxbury, Mission Hill

BOSTON — July 22, 2026 — Boston Mayor Kim Janey joined JPNDC and MassHousing officials July 22 to mark the completion of a 201-unit affordable housing rehabilitation in the Roxbury, Mission Hill, and Fort Hill neighborhoods. The project, which JPNDC took on in 2016 after units were identified as at risk of loss to the private market, was conducted as an occupied rehab — with residents in place — and required an $8 million expansion of the original construction scope after inspectors found conditions behind walls that exceeded early estimates; the work continued through the COVID-19 pandemic. Sheila Dillon, the city's Chief of Housing, said Mayor Janey secured an additional $20 million for the city's Acquisition Opportunity Program, tripling its size, and that the fiscal year 2022 city budget included a 21 percent increase for affordable housing. Janey said housing costs in Roxbury have risen 70 percent over five years and called the project "an important model for us to continue to replicate."
