MassRobotics Opens Expanded Seaport Facility With Walsh and Baker at Ribbon Cutting

BOSTON — MassRobotics cuts the ribbon on an expanded Boston Seaport robotics facility backed by the state and city. Mayor Marty Walsh and Governor Charlie Baker joined MassRobotics Chair Tim Rowe and Executive Director Tom Ryden at the ceremony, which drew corporate partners including Amazon Robotics and iRobot. Amazon Robotics Chief Technologist and co-founder Ty Brady said the company has invested $3 billion in Massachusetts since 2011 and employs more than 4,000 workers in the state, with 200 positions currently open and a new Westborough facility on the way.

Ryden reported that four companies have graduated from the shared space — American Robotics, Real Time Robotics, Square Robot, and On and a Dime — now employing 120 people combined, with roughly 40 companies currently in residence. The facility, constructed with help from a robot wall-painter and a robotics-assembled lobby mosaic, was supported by 35 corporate partners including Analog Devices, MITRE Corporation, and Harmonic Drive alongside MassWorks funding and City of Boston economic development support.
