Boston Mayor Walsh reports 1 million meals distributed, launches PPE resource page for small businesses. At a COVID-19 press briefing, Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced that the city had distributed more than 1 million meals to young Bostonians at 65 sites in roughly two months and issued 19 new Boston Resiliency Fund grants totaling $880,000 focused on food equity, with 58 percent of recipient organizations led by people of color.

The city's small business relief fund had distributed nearly $4 million in grants to more than 100 businesses, with 95 percent employing 15 or fewer workers, and Walsh launched a new PPE procurement resource at boston.gov/business-PPE. The Boston Licensing Board moved the same day to streamline outdoor dining permit applications, drawing immediate responses from 147 restaurants. Walsh warned residents against beach gatherings over Memorial Day weekend, noting city studies showed roughly 10 percent of Bostonians had been COVID-positive or antibody-positive, leaving more than 600,000 still vulnerable.
