Boston awards a $17 million school meals contract to Roxbury-based City Fresh Foods, the largest non-construction deal in city history with a certified Black-owned business. Itewoo noted the award quadruples the city's previous record for a non-construction contract to a minority firm, and that the city stands at 6.5 percent of contracts going to women- and minority-owned businesses, with a stated goal of reaching double digits. CEO Sheldon Lloyd, whose 160-person workforce is majority Boston residents, announced the company is building a new state-of-the-art production plant in the heart of Roxbury.
