Boston commission approves five capital contracts in single meeting

Boston Public Facilities Commission approves five contracts, clearing path for a Chinatown school and firehouse repairs. The commission unanimously authorized the Public Facilities Department to seek state permission to use a construction-management-at-risk delivery method for the six-story Josiah Quincy Upper School, now in schematic design with the Massachusetts School Building Authority. Commissioners also approved a roughly $957,000 design-fee increase for DesignLab Architects Inc. on the Curley Community Center renovation in South Boston, a $23,846 increase for Abacus Architects Plus Planners on Family Justice Center elevator upgrades, and $101,687 more for Attain Engineers PC's envelope repairs across five firehouses.
A new $350,000 contract went to CSS Architects for repairs at the South End Fitness Center and the Miranda Kramer building, home to Boston EMS. "It's great to see this next step going forward," one commissioner said of the school project. All five votes passed with no recorded dissent.
