Boston PIC Approves Herb Chambers Dealership Sidewalk Work, Advances Four Projects

BOSTON — May 25, 2023 — Boston's Public Improvement Commission approved Herb Chambers sidewalk and curb work at 720 Morrissey Boulevard and advanced four other petitions to a June 15 public hearing. Chair Franklin Hodge presided as the commission unanimously approved specific repairs for the proposed Honda dealership on Freeport Street and Victory Road in Dorchester, including eight-foot sidewalks with permeable paver furnishing zones and new street trees; project counsel Paul Lasorda pledged to pursue a private mill-and-overlay of deteriorating Freeport Street "up to Herb Chambers himself." Also continued to June 15 were a Massachusetts Port Authority plan to build the first dedicated bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure along New Cypher Street in the Seaport, a Boston Water and Sewer Commission bollard-and-sidewalk safety project at 980 Harrison Avenue, a 45-unit affordable homeownership development near Forest Hills, and a downtown tower renovation at One Post Office Square involving 64 bicycle racks and a pedestrian easement. The commission also unanimously appointed Transportation Commissioner Nicholas Groh, or his designee Amy Cording, as Vice Chair.
