Boston PIC Approves Verizon Pole in Roxbury, Advances Mission Hill Street Renaming

BOSTON — August 14, 2025 — Boston's Public Improvement Commission approved a Verizon utility pole on Nasing Street in Roxbury and opened a public hearing on renaming a Mission Hill public way at its August 14 meeting. The commission voted unanimously to approve the Verizon New England petition to install one new private utility pole with a guy wire attachment at 35 Nasing Street, generally between Blue Hill Avenue and Maple Street, after a site photo review confirmed the installation would not narrow the sidewalk beyond existing tree-pit constraints. Chair Yasha Franklin-Hodge, noting the commission had asked for sidewalk clearance dimensions and guy wire details "every time," directed Verizon's representative Ross Billidu to submit full plan documentation with all future petitions. The commission also opened a continuation hearing on a petition, managed by the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services and originating in early 2024, to rename the entirety of Turquoise Way — a public way between McGreevy Way and Smith Street affecting four parcels — as Pauline Bennett Way.
