Uncategorized · Meeting of July 19, 2026
Boston's Zoning Board of Appeal cleared a new 68,000-square-foot campus for the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in Nubian Square and approved two cannabis establishments at a lengthy May 24, 2022 virtual hearing. Attorney Matt Kiefer of Goulston and Storrs secured approval for the BFIT relocation from the South End to 1003-1013 Harrison Avenue, with the board granting a conditional use permit and a floor-area-ratio variance of approximately 2.26 against a 2.0 maximum; the building will include automotive and cybersecurity labs and rooftop solar panels targeting LEED Gold. On cannabis, attorney Mike Ross of Prince Lobel won a buffer-zone variance for High Street Cannabis at 200 High Street, a social equity applicant with two smaller, unopened competitors within 1,584 feet; board member Ms.
Better stated plainly, "I wish the city had never imposed the buffer zone because all it has done is created confusion, chaos, and total havoc." A proposed four-unit addition at 362 Sumner Street in East Boston was denied without prejudice 5-1, consistent with the BPDA's standing recommendation against fourth-story additions in Jeffries Point while Plan East Boston is underway.
