Boston Commission Approves Chinatown Affordable Housing Easement, West Roxbury Road Upgrades

BOSTON — April 11, 2024 — Boston's Public Improvement Commission approved a pedestrian easement and streetwork for a 126-unit Chinatown affordable housing project and greenlit a long-sought road betterment converting two West Roxbury private ways to public streets. The commission voted unanimously Thursday to accept a pedestrian easement at 41 Lagrange Street in Chinatown on behalf of SFH 48 Boylston Street LLC, a project of the Planning Office of Urban Affairs and St. Francis House serving tenants at 30 to 80 percent of area median income. Separately, the commission approved roadway betterments for Senator Bolling Circle and Snowden Way in West Roxbury, capping a process that began in 2018; an abutter vote held April 1 showed 77.4 percent support for Senator Bolling Circle's larger segment and 88.2 percent for Snowden Way. The commission also approved specific repairs at 30 Park Street in Charlestown and introduced four new business items — including an Arnold Arboretum entrance improvement project and a Jones Avenue pedestrian bridge discontinuance — all continued to a public hearing on April 25.
