Boston Public Facilities Commission unanimously appoints Carrie Griffin as department director. Commissioners Larry Mamoli and Dion Irish approved the appointment at a special meeting July 31, then voted again to add Griffin as an authorized signatory on the department's certificate of authority. Chief of Operations Patrick Brophy, presenting both votes, said Griffin rose through the department over decades, from clerk of the works to assistant director, with stints at Boston Public Schools and the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority's Boston Convention and Exhibition Center team in between.
Brophy said he had personally handled the department's signing authority since predecessor Trisha Lyons departed more than a year ago, and cited a capital plan spending $12 million to $14 million monthly. "It is all necessary in the interest of transparent, open government," Brophy said. Griffin called the appointment "very honoring and humble."
