Boston PFC approves $214,707 contract increase for Josiah Quincy Elementary School renovation

BOSTON -- May 19, 2022, Boston's Public Facilities Commission unanimously approved a $214,707.58 contract increase with Yale Associates Incorporated for building envelope work at the Josiah Quincy Elementary School in Chinatown. Chair Catherine Craven and Commissioner Larry Momoli voted in favor following a presentation by Senior Project Manager Rowan McNulty, who told commissioners that deferred maintenance items not captured in the original 2019 project assessment had expanded the scope to include full window replacement, fin-tube radiator repair, additional exterior masonry work, and the engagement of a scheduling consultant. Yale Associates' total fee rises to $679,705.58, 5.18 percent of a revised $13 million construction cost estimate, well under PFD's 7.4 percent cap for school renovations. The contract expiration date is extended to August 31, 2024, to accommodate multi-year phased construction designed to keep the school at 885 Washington Street operational throughout the work.
