Boston PFC Approves School Repair Contracts and Roxbury Pedestrian Safety Easements

BOSTON — December 17, 2025 — Boston Public Facilities Commission clears contracts, easements, and land actions across ten votes on December 17. Commissioners Larry Mamoli and Donald Wright approved four contract amendments totaling $267,295 for consultant teams advancing roof replacements at the Kenney Elementary School in Dorchester and O'Donnell Elementary School in East Boston, and window and door replacements at the Everett Elementary, Murphy K-8, and Adams Elementary schools, all under the Massachusetts School Building Authority's 2024 Accelerated Repairs Program, which carries a total project budget of $9.4 million and roughly $4.6 million in anticipated state reimbursement. Brian McLaughlin, Senior Program Manager with the Public Facilities Department, told commissioners the MSBA board authorized project funding agreements for four of the five schools on December 12, but the Boston City Council ended its legislative session before the city could appropriate its share — a gap McLaughlin said the Mayor's Office of Intergovernmental Affairs is working to close when the council returns in early January. The commission also approved an order of taking for easements on 19 parcels in Roxbury for the MassDOT-funded Ellis Safe Routes to School traffic calming project, and voted to sell a long-vacant West Roxbury lot to Brianne and Justin Young for $14,000 and to transfer two Melnea Cass Boulevard parcels totaling 12,685 square feet from the Public Works Department to the Mayor's Office of Housing for inclusion in the Drexel Village affordable housing project.
