Boston PIC Approves Roxbury, South End, and Downtown Street Projects at June 15 Hearing

BOSTON — June 15, 2023 — Boston's Public Improvement Commission approved more than a dozen street reconstruction and easement petitions June 15 while continuing four Massport-MassDOT items and a contested Eversource pole installation to its June 29 hearing. Tilly Huang, Massport's Deputy Director of Programs and Environmental Affairs, requested the continuance on the New Cypress Street project — which would create the first pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure on a South Boston street currently shared by walkers and heavy trucks — citing additional community comments received since the May 25 new business hearing. The commission unanimously approved specific repairs for a 45-unit, 100-percent affordable housing development at 10 Stonely Road in West Roxbury, with the condition that developer Stonely Brookly LLC coordinate with the city's active transportation team to install previously omitted speed humps along Brookly Road. An Eversource Energy petition to relocate a utility pole in Brighton was continued after Transportation Department representative Amy Cording raised unresolved questions about a guy-wire anchor to be drilled roughly six feet into the ground adjacent to a tree.
