Boston PIC Approves Six Infrastructure Petitions, Continues Two to September 11

BOSTON — August 28, 2025 — Boston's Public Improvement Commission approved six infrastructure petitions and continued two to September 11 at its August 28 meeting. Acting chair Amy Gordon of the Property Management Department led the session, with members from Inspectional Services, the Water and Sewer Commission, and the Commission for Persons with Disabilities present. Approvals included a Verizon utility pole relocation in Public Alley 418 behind 275-277 Beacon Street at the request of a resident who described a parking spot rendered unusable by the pole's position, a National Grid gas regulator station replacement on Walworth Street that will serve roughly 6,000 customers, and a Verizon conduit extension on Inglewood Avenue in Brighton. The commission continued an Eversource Electric transformer installation at 16 Whitby Street in East Boston and a specific-repairs petition for a South Boston service facility at 346 D Street, both to September 11, citing outstanding agreements and the absence of the commission's regular chair. Suffolk University's conversion of 101 Tremont Street into a student residence hall — involving three separate PIC actions including sidewalk repairs on Tremont, Bosworth, and Bromfield streets — advanced to a public hearing in two weeks, with staff flagging that Bromfield Street's 13.4-foot curb-to-curb width falls below fire department requirements and requires turning analysis.
