Boston PIC Clears Eight Infrastructure Projects Across Six Neighborhoods in Single Session

BOSTON — May 8, 2025 — Boston's Public Improvement Commission approved 11 petitions covering street reconstruction, utility work, and development-related infrastructure across six neighborhoods at its May 8 meeting. The commission voted unanimously on all items, clearing city Public Works projects on Medfield Street in Fenway-Kenmore, Armington Street in Brighton, Euclid Street in Dorchester, Ready Avenue and Thatcher Street in Hyde Park, and McBride Street in West Roxbury, all under the city's state of good repair program. Jeffrey Alexis of the Public Works Engineering Infrastructure and Design team presented most items alongside Matthew Soltis of Niche Engineering. The commission also approved a pedestrian easement package and street-improvement petition tied to a new Northeastern University student housing building at the corner of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Tremont Street in Roxbury, where a proposed one-block raised cycle track drew public comment from Allison Pultinas of the Friends of Melnea Cass Boulevard, who called the design dangerous and urged continued rethinking; BTD staff said signal and design coordination with Northeastern would continue. A vertical airspace discontinuance for a Vertex Pharmaceuticals pedestrian bridge over Northern Avenue in South Boston was also approved. Six new business items — including affordable housing projects at 95 Everett Street, 1266 Commonwealth Avenue, and 247 Hancock Street — were continued to May 22 or May 27.
