Boston Public Facilities Commission Approves $145,650 Firehouse Contract Amendment

BOSTON -- February 22, 2023, Boston Public Facilities Commission unanimously approves $145,650 contract amendment to close out the Engine 42 firehouse in Roxbury. Chair Catherine Craven and Commissioner Larry Romoli approved the amendment to the architectural services contract with Doak and Whittier Architects, Incorporated, which has managed design and construction administration for the project at 1870 Columbus Avenue since 2018. Senior Project Manager Scott Dupree told the commission that $113,730 of the increase covers additional geotechnical engineering required after unforeseen soil conditions forced crews to install geopeers to stabilize the foundation, while $31,920 covers construction administration closeout work. Dupree noted that expenditures from the contingency fund require written authorization from PFD senior management. The contract's expiration date is extended through April 15, 2023. The completed firehouse now serves Engine 42, Rescue 2, and Division 2.
