Boston Public Facilities Commission Approves Six Contracts Worth Over $3.3 Million

BOSTON -- March 15, 2023, Boston's Public Facilities Commission unanimously approved six contract actions totaling more than $3.3 million at its March 15 meeting, covering capital projects at five school buildings and a new Franklin Park animal shelter. The largest vote awarded a $2,517,300 design and construction administration contract to RFA Associates, formally Rowhause Friedenfeld and Associates LLP, for a new municipal animal shelter in Roxbury, based on an estimated construction cost of roughly $25.4 million; PFD exercised a reserved right to retain the firm, which has worked on the project since 2019. Commissioner Larry Momoli presided, with Chair Catherine Craven present. Senior Project Manager Brian McLaughlin secured approval of two amendments totaling $78,272 tied to a rejected retractable door at Boston Arts Academy, costs to be offset by a deduct change order to general contractor Lee Kennedy Company. Project Manager Niall Murphy won approval of a $506,600 amendment to the Raymond Design Associates contract for a two-story addition and full renovation at the Patrick J. Kennedy Elementary School in East Boston, where construction is set to begin later in 2023.
