Boston Approves $591,461 OPM Contract for Shaw-Taylor School Consolidation Project

BOSTON — September 24, 2025 — Boston's Public Facilities Commission voted unanimously to award a $591,461 contract to Skanska USA to manage the early design phase of the Shaw-Taylor School consolidation project in Mattapan. The award, contingent on Massachusetts School Building Authority review panel approval at an October 6 meeting, covers Owner's Project Manager services through schematic design for a project expected to exceed $100 million in total construction costs. Director Carlton Jones of the Public Facilities Department told commissioners the P.A. Shaw School, built in 1919, and the Taylor School, built in 1931, both lack gymnasiums and proper cafeterias, with students at Taylor eating "in a space adjacent to the boiler room." Skanska was selected from 10 responding firms after a competitive process that began June 18. The commission also approved the sale of a long-vacant Mattapan parcel to a private buyer for $62,500 and a Hyde Park parcel to the newly formed Community Land Trust for $100 for Neponset River open space, returning properties held in city inventory for 38 and 41 years respectively.
