Boston PFC Approves $1.07 Million City Hall Plaza Contract Amendment, New PFD Director

BOSTON -- June 26, 2024, Boston's Public Facilities Commission approved eight votes June 26, including a $1.07 million contract amendment for City Hall Plaza renovations and the appointment of a new department director. Chaired by Catherine Craven and joined by commissioners Larry Mamoli and Donald Wright, the PFC authorized a $1,069,951 increase to the contract with Sasaki Architects PC, $969,551 in base design services plus $100,000 for additional services, to cover structural and waterproofing repairs to the Congress Street stairs, the garage below the plaza, and City Hall's fourth-floor patio, where failing skylights are causing leaks into occupied spaces. Carlton Jones was formally appointed Director of the Public Facilities Department, with Ron McNulty confirmed as Deputy Director and authorized signatory. The commission also adopted a new municipal building naming policy and, in a second session for the Mayor's Office of Housing, approved five land-disposition votes in Roxbury and Dorchester, including a 72-month designation extension for Cruise Development Corporation, which has secured $8.3 million in state housing funds, nearly $30 million in tax credits, and $4 million in MassWorks infrastructure funding for a mixed-use project at Dudley and Washington streets.
