Boston Public Facilities Commission Approves Six Contracts Worth Over $16 Million

BOSTON -- July 31, 2024, Boston's Public Facilities Commission approved six contracts and amendments totaling more than $16 million at its July 31 meeting, advancing a North End community center, a South End library replacement, and a long-delayed vocational school renovation. The largest award, approved unanimously by Commissioners Larry Mamoli and Donald Wright, went to Sasaki Architects PC for design and construction administration services for the North End Community Center at 741 Commercial Street at a fee not to exceed $6,746,884, with the project backed by a $20 million federal grant against an estimated $65 million construction cost. Perkins and Will Architects Incorporated received a $7,425,000 contract for programming and schematic design at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School in Roxbury, covering only the first phase of a larger effort. An existing design contract with Utile Inc. for the South End Branch Library at 685 Tremont Street was increased by $1,775,030, and James Carr Architecture and Design LLC won a five-year, $1 million house-doctor consulting contract for green building and sustainability review. On the housing side, ILYB LLC, a minority-owned Roxbury developer, received a 12-month extension on its tentative designation for two Nubian Square parcels earmarked for performing arts studios, while a vacant Roslindale lot sold to Kenneth and Lisa Terry for the appraised price of $26,000.
