Boston PFC Extends Urban Edge Designation for Roxbury Open Space Parcel

BOSTON — May 21, 2025 — Boston Public Facilities Commission extends Urban Edge Housing Corporation's developer designation for a vacant Roxbury lot. The commission voted unanimously Wednesday to stretch Urban Edge's tentative designation for 7 Waldron Street from 12 months to 24 months, giving the nonprofit additional time to finalize a site design and budget for a proposed community open space featuring a shade pavilion, new trees, and seating. Teresa Strachillo, Program Manager with the Mayor's Office of Housing's Grow Boston division, told commissioners that Urban Edge staff had been occupied with a separate project, Amory Green, which the city conveyed to Urban Edge in January 2025 and is now expected to begin construction shortly. The parcel has been in city inventory for more than 33 years. The commission separately tabled a presentation on proposed changes to the Mayor's Office of Housing's loans policy after Commissioner Larry Romoli noted that Commission Chair Craven was absent and should have the opportunity to review the material.
