Boston PIC Approves Olmsted Village Streets, Flags Dorchester Health Center Bus Stop Design

BOSTON — October 23, 2025 — Boston's Public Improvement Commission approved five street petitions for the final phase of the Olmsted Village affordable housing development in Mattapan while sending a Dorchester health center streetscape back for redesign at its October 23 meeting. Chair Yawu Franklin-Hodge led the unanimous approvals covering the widening and extension of West Main Street, Deering Road, and Warbler Way, a pedestrian easement on Harvard Street, and a comprehensive specific repairs plan for the New Boston Fund DBA Olmsted Village Master Developer LLC project, which will deliver 193 affordable rental units, 127 senior housing units in the Brook House, and $6 million in community benefits. The commission continued the petition by Harvard Street Support Corporation for a new three-story health facility at 8 Old Road and 14-16 Ellington Street in Dorchester to November 20, directing civil engineer Hilary Holmes of Langan to obtain formal MBTA sign-off on an articulated bus stop configuration and to assess the feasibility of a raised tabled intersection at Ellington and Old Road before returning. Franklin-Hodge warned that a loading zone immediately adjacent to an 84-foot bus stop risked blocking accessible bus service for a patient population that relies heavily on public transit. The commission also conditionally approved sidewalk and street tree repairs at 1615-1617 Tremont Street in Roxbury for Lubavitch of Cambridge Inc., contingent on a written Parks Department tree maintenance agreement.
