Boston panel extends Urban Edge's Roxbury open-space designation by 12 months

BOSTON — May 21, 2025 — Boston's Public Facilities Commission unanimously extended Urban Edge Housing Corporation's developer designation for a vacant Roxbury lot, while tabling a second item over an absent chair. Commissioners Larry Momoli and Donald Wright, meeting without Chair Craven, approved a 12-month extension of the tentative designation for the parcel at 7 Waldron Street — stretching the original intent-to-sell window to 24 months total. Teresa Strachilla, Program Manager with the Mayor's Office of Housing's Grow Boston division, told commissioners that Urban Edge's project staff had been occupied with Amory Green, a separate city open-space partnership for which land was conveyed in January 2025, delaying design and budget work on Waldron Street. The approved design calls for a shade pavilion, new trees, and community seating on a parcel that has sat in city inventory for more than 33 years, with a formal conveyance vote expected this winter. Momoli moved to table the second agenda item, citing the absence of Chair Craven and the need for the full commission to weigh in.
